Post Production Details

After the New York premiere, the film opened in major U.S. cities on October 26th and then went on to wider release to 85 screens by November 6th. It garnered some glowing reviews but mostly a mixed reception. Todd's quote was apt, "All my films have divided audiences intensely. The most interesting films that have ever been made have always done this." The film's budget was $7 million and it grossed just over a million dollars in box office receipts. The VHS went on sale on May 18, 1999 (at a list price of $129! - at that time VHS releases were aimed at video rental outlets) and later was released on DVD.

I think that's a very notable thing about this movie, it may not have made truckloads at the box office, but DVD sales must be pretty good... tis why I thought when all their stars were hitting their peak about 3 years ago that they might have tried to capitalize and re-release it!

I wasn't able to get the DVD sales numbers but I agree. Just when we think the VG stars are hitting their peaks, they only get more well known to a even more diverse audience. I think one mark of a great film is when the cast is a made up of a lot of young actors who go on to long careers. Who knew that Ewan would be in Star Wars, let alone in Moulin Rouge and then on stage in Guys and Dolls, that Johnny would play Elvis on American TV, and that Christian, after odd balls like The Machinist, would play Batman. It's a re-release goldmine [pardon] awaiting some exec with half a brain. [DVD, all the extras, booklet, copy of the screenplay, a little glitter makeup, in a lovely gift box, release before the holidays... it ain't rocket science, Harvey!]

Speaking of Johnny, I am incredibly impressed with his acting in the Elvis movie. Part 2 was so great; I actually forgot he was Johnathan Rhys-Myers.
