Who's (Supposedly) Who

INT. CITY HOSPITAL, NEW YORK – DAY – 1984
CLOSE ON the unshaven face of a fifty-three-year-old Cecil Drake, Brian’s first manager, remembering.
Cecil Drake is a thinly disguised version of Ken Pitt, Bowie's first manager.
Kenneth Pitt himself is among the more cultivated artistes' mangers in a business that has never been renowned for intellectual achievement. He is quiet and urbane, pungently witty, an authority on the works of Oscar Wilde, a collector of Victorian literature, a gifted raconteur, a former student at the Slade (School of Fine Art), who is only partly cosmopolitan, spending weekends at a country home in Sussex.
Like Cecil, Pitt saw something new in his protégé, I was looking for someone who could come out of the pop world and be a star as opposed to a guitar cowboy.
And like Cecil, he was dropped when a flashier manager came along.
