So what are you, a mod or a rocker?
BRIAN
Six of one, half a dozen of the other, really.
This is a play on Ringo's line in A Hard Day's Night. When a reporter asks him Are you a Mod or a Rocker? he replies, I'm a mocker. And notice that Brian says the line with a Liverpudlian accent in an imitation of the Beatles.
Of course Brian's ambivalence is in perfect line with his 'Bi' nature.
Incidentally, both Marc Bolan and David Bowie were Mods.
Richard Lester, director of A Hard Day's Night and Help, is like Todd, an American making films about the British music scene.
