script:
INT. WINGS – RAINBOW THEATRE – LATER – 1975
Fast ZOOM OUT from Arthur, dancing wildly in the wings.
In the wings a Roadie puts his hand on Arthur’s shoulder to settle him down.
Arthur turns, embarrassed. He catches sight of:
Three people approaching from backstage: a Musician, a Hip Woman with a clipboard – and Curt Wild. ZOOM IN.
Arthur stares in disbelief.
Carter Burwell's contribution to the soundtrack, Velvet Spacetime, snakes through the film; it almost can be called Arthur's Theme. The spacey electronic tune changes in mood from ominous, as when Arthur is first walking through 1984 New York and thinking, 'Because I remember. Suddenly I was being paid to remember all the things that money, the future and a serious life made so certain I'd forget'..., to dreamy - when he and Curt are up on the roof. Here, in a sort of musical foreshadowing, a chord of the same melody that underscores Arthur's and Curt's encounter on the rooftop sounds when Arthur recognizes Curt backstage and "stares in disbelief."
