script:
INT. HOSPITAL – NEW YORK – DAY – 1984

Arthur looks up at Cecil, CLOSE.

CECIL

(to camera)

Curt Wild.

The script doesn't say Cut to a close up of Arthur but the film does. In fact every time Cecil or Mandy (and Lou in a scene cut from the film - see entry of 7/1) says Curt's name to Arthur, it is followed by a close up of Arthur.

The film has its own built in drinking game! Which could be named from a line from the script: Arthur flinches softly.

(recommended drinks: champagne, scotch/rocks or beer/emeralds)

I know this is late, but I just saw the film a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm reading through all the past entries to catch up.

LMAO. Poor Arthur!
This is a fantastic site. Not only is it helping me understand the (very complicated) movie, I'm learning all these cool things about glam rock and Oscar Wilde. And every once in awhile, getting a big laugh. Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much! We are certainly doing what Todd wanted:"I hoped it would be like those trippy movies you'd go to and then analyze with your friends; buy the record and play it over and over again and ponder its meaning." I do think it is a complex movie but in this day of the DVD, it's especially great that a film can stand up to multiple viewings and reward us with so much depth.

We are already at a point where an appeal to rock 'n' roll will tell us almost nothing worth knowing, though this is, finally, a rock 'n' roll story. Real mysteries cannot be solved, but they can be turned into better mysteries.
